DUKE MEN'S CREW
Contact Info Directions to the Boathouse
Duke Men's Crew rows out of the Bertha K. Bergman Memorial Boathouse, and shares the facility with the women's team. The three bay boathouse was built in 1979 and plans for construction of a new facility within the next few years are underway. The boathouse is on Lake Michie in Bahama, NC, about a 20 minute drive from campus. The lake serves as a reservoir for the city of Durham, and when the water is at it's highest, there is over 6000 meters of rowable water. Lake Michie is ideal for training for head races and has a nearly straight 2000 meter stretch for sprints training.
On campus we now have our own erg room in Card Gym. The room itself is currently in limbo, but we have a temporary room equipped with 20 Concept II Model C ergs. Access to showers and locker rooms is available. Adjacent to Card Gym is the Wilson Center. Here you can find the Men's Crew office and the weight room used by the team.
Men's Crew at Duke operates under the Department of Intramurals, Sports Clubs & Recreation. We receive minimal funding from the school and rely on fundraising and donations from parents and alumni to support our operating costs. We also depend heavily on dedicated volunteers from the school and community for coaching.
The team was founded in 1978 and has steadily grown in both numbers and strength since then. We race at many major regattas all along the east coast in the fall and spring. Check out our schedule to see where we will be next.
