Duke Mens Crew had a performance at the inaugural Rocketts Landing Regatta in Richmond, Virginia, only to be greeted with some of the worst conditions we have ever rowed in. The varsity 8 got off first, to rough surf, whitecaps and some nasty wakes; the novice 4 managed to race through 1000 meters. Shortly after, the race was cancled due to flooding boats, worsening conditions and danger to the rowers. Check out the article and video in the Times-Dispatch here . The varsity unfortunately took last place, though our novice boat managed a very wet second place finish out of three boats. We are headed to John Hunter this weekend on the '96 olympic venue in Atlanta. We have posted a few new pictures and videos, so keep checking us out as we continue to improve through the season.

Due to size constraints with Picasa, we will be migrating our videos back to Youtube. The current account is http://www.youtube.com/user/dukemenscrew . Videos will be available both here and under the link to the left titled "Practice Videos" until all videos can be migrated to the new Youtube site. We apologize for the inconvience and delay.

We enjoyed the weekend visit of John Moore, T'87, an Olympian at the Barcelona '92 games. We thank him for his invaluable time and support of the team. We hope that his helpful coaching will lead us to victory at the Rocketts Landing regatta this upcoming Sunday. Thanks to Linda Mundt, champion of the 2005 head of the Charles, for her assistance in the boat as well.

Duke is back from spring break! The pictures are uploaded to our Picasa Web site, and videos will be finished uploading later tonight. We stayed in Tampa and worked hard to put together both a novice and a varsity 8. Unfortunately, due to illness, we did not perform out best last weekend at the Aiken Sprints. Results can be found here . We are headed into our Spring Season, with races starting next weekend up in Richmond.

In Tampa, Duke was able to try out a new Resolute 4, which everyone grew to love; unfortunately we are one more semester of fundraising away from having a brand new Reso 4 to call our own. We made it to the water twice per day, to enjoy the sun and salty sea, and despite the hasstle of having to wash boats every time we came in, we all loved the warm southern air. Please feel free to check out the pictures and videos from the trip; all you need to do is follow the links to the left.

On the last day of February, we finally made it out to the lake for our first water practice of the season. Exciting new news is that our Vespoli 4 has changed hands, and we are looking to add another Resolute to the fleet. This means that we are naming boats again! Let us know your ideas about how the team should go about naming our boats. We currently have 2 unnamed boats, this will make a third.

We are headed up to Tampa in just a week now for Spring Training, and excited to get to row our new 8 in the warm Florida waters. Our spring schedule has been updated, so check back to follow Duke Mens Crew as we head into our spring season.

Duke placed third overall at the Scrambled Erg sprints this weekend, behind Wake Forest and Clemson. Kasey Geibel won first in the Mens 2000m. Pictures are posted via Picassa, please use the 'Pictures' link to the left.

For those interested in rowing for Duke, The FAQ and Recruiting pages on the sidebar may be of interest. For a full schedule see the Duke Rower link.

Not everybody wins, and certainly not everybody wins all the time. But once you get into your boat and push off, tie into your shoes and bootstretchers, then "lean on the oars," you have indeed won far more than those who have never tried.
